Nauvoo Trip with Hoverman Family

We met Travis' family in Nauvoo last month for a mini family reunion.  They've all been many times, but it was my first time.  I can see why they keep going back!  It was beautiful there and really neat seeing how the early pioneers and church members and people back then lived and worked.  And we loved talking to all the missionaries--young and old!  Every place you visit the missionaries talk about how everyone had to work together to get things done in the community back then and how that's like our families.  We all have different talents and strengths and if we work together beautiful things happen and we accomplish much more.

We were there for four days and filled every minute with cool stuff.

On the way, we stopped at a McDonalds to play in the play place.  They had fun. :)

These kids were so patient with Sophie.  She had so much fun!  This is Abby and Sophie.

Say "CHEESE"!

Someone was being a grumpy-wumpy.

The temple was beautiful!
Right on the hill overlooking the Mississippi.
Gorgeous!

A little happier.

Joseph and Hyrum right before they left for Carthage.  One last look at the temple.

The kids had fun playing with these pioneer kid games while the adults were learning about making bread, barrels, rope, weaving and more.

Travis and his little women

Harmony, Abby, and us.  We had fun playing dress up.
Sophie especially liked the hats.  Julia didn't like the hats.

This was a fun area--Pioneer Pastimes.  Lots of fun pioneer games for kids and adults.
We spent lots of time here and came back for more on our last day.

We got out of the heat one afternoon to watch a live kids show.  The kids got to sit on the front row!  Of course, Sophie lasted there for about 30 seconds.  Then she came and sat back with us.  And that lasted about 2 minutes, then we left.  Of the 6 or so shows that we saw, we only made it through one--and that's because it was outside.  We'll definitely have to come again when the kids are older.

Bryce, Phyllis, Kailyn, Harmony, Justin, Me, and Julia
(and a bunch of other people we don't know) :)

Wesley is a cutie!  This was on the carriage ride.

We passed this tree (can't remember the name) and thought the thorns would rival the thorns on the mesquites here in Texas.

This was the only show we made it through.  Maybe because Sophie got to be in the parade at the beginning!  She had a lot of fun in it.

And she got to stand on the stage waving her flag.

She is so beautiful!

Sophie got to see and pet lots of horses.  This one took us on the wagon ride.

Brothers getting ready for their stilt competition.  Justin won by a long shot. :)

Sophie loves baby dolls!  Seriously.  She is a little mommy.

At Pioneer Pastimes they had this little kid sized cabin with a play kitchen and stuff.  The kids loved it.

Taking care of her babies.

We loved seeing the Hovermans and can't wait to get back to Nauvoo sometime.  Travis and I secretly want to be missionaries there when we're older. :)

So fun! I loved doing my BYU Semester in Nauvoo and that was before they even had half the stuff that they have there now. I need to get back. :)

You guys would be awesome missionaries! Those pictures were so beautiful! I especially love the pictures of you guys in front of the temple (grumpy little one and all.) We will definitely have to visit Nauvoo again. I went once, but no one else in the family has been there. So does everyone say that Sophie looks like Travis and Julia looks like you?
